The Old Newsboys: A Proud History

The Old Newsboys Goodfellow Association, an organizationof over 600 active and life members, is devoted to helping needy kids. Our members come from all walks of business, industry, the professions, government and other public services.

The Old Newsboys were formed in Toledo in 1929. Their common bond is fellowship in compassion for children suffering under poverty and neglect. The goal of the "newsies" is immediate emergency services when a school administrator, teacher, policeman, fireman or neighbor reports a child in dire need of shoes or coat. The Organization is not a substitute for public welfare or other various social agencies and does not undertake continuing clients. It functions without administrative delay to afford speedy temporary service.

Members raise their own funds by "hawking" an annual charity edition newspapers at businesses, banks, malls or any place we can ask for donations. The organization also provides scholarships each to area students who are chosen by need and a goal to achieve. We also provide Christmas basketsto over 1000 needy families.
